It's finally time to start this NA project engine for the first time. Getting the last details done, has been surprisingly slow process and this video has been in the works for half a year now.

My old e39 winter beater starts to be bit too rusty and I don't have time to fix all that rust properly. So I have been looking for rust free and cheap BMW to replace that. And now I finally found it and of course it's broken. In this video I try to figure out what has gone wrong in it.

Time to drop in the newly built NA engine to my old BMW e36. But before that we will put the old engine back to running condition and see if it runs as it should. bigger pulleys in engine its very good option , but maybe better use a bigger pulley in water pump and power steering ? , "more power" on engine and no problem with cavitation fluids and power steering oil dont overheat when you go high rpm . i searching bigger pulleys to power steering and also water pump , or you can use electric power steering , alternator 150 a from other bmw intake manifold from m50 ( b20 its fine trust me ;)) and use a bigger throttle body p&p form other bmw
Water pump technically already has bigger pulley. M52tu/m54 has smaller pulley there as single vanos ones and older have. So I did put on the bigger single vanos pulley there for water pump. I will also probaply swap to e60 ps pump that also runs smaller pulley. But still use the older bigger pulley there. So I don't need to waste money on fancy aftermarket pulleys for those.

Tiiätkö mistä voisi johtua että kun lämpinänä starttaa autoa, niin välillä jää vajailla käymään ennen kun polkaisee kaasua, ja sitten käy ihan normaalisti? Muuten auto käy tosi hyvin. Ei anna mitään vikakoodeja. Kyseessä e39 m54b30 moottorilla.
Osia mitä oon uusinut, kaikki lamdat, nokka-akselin asennontunnistimen, maf anturin, koko huohotin järjestelmä, imusarjan tiiviste, tulpat, jäähdytinnesteen lämpötila-anturi, koska vikokoodinlukija väitti nesteen lämpötilaksi -48 ja näyttää sitä edelleen, voiko tämä liittyä käyntiongelmaan?

I’m curious since this late model e36 had no obd2 port is it still OBDII CAN or does it still use the OBD1 CAN from previous models? I’m thinking of retrofitting an OBDII style connector in my 94 325i when I eventually get a standalone ecu
No CAN on e36 obd port. Only K-bus. The communication is still bmw specific "OBD I". But ms41.1/2 ECU's can also output standard OBD II -data.

Well, as I said in the video. It should work if you swap the ms41 to ms43 and run alpina bin in that.

Hello there, why didnt you try to use f10 dust cover between engine and gearbox, and why didnt you try to fit the f10 starter?
In theory the F10 dust cover would have worked. But you can easily check the holes to be grind with m5x one. And the n55 starter would also need adapter, because it also bolts to block and not to the trans

Excellent, looking at prices for these it is becoming a compelling swap, especially in the future as the manuals become harder to find. It is also an outstanding transmission, reliable. The hardest part so far mount and drive shaft. It would be good to know what the length of your final one will be( I assume this is the final one but no run time yet). part 2 part 2 part 2!!!
I'll measure the length of the driveshaft in the next part for reference. The part 2 should come out "soon". I have already filmed 95% of it and I have the setup working. I just need to get the engine to run better to be able to include some driving footage also.

The CAN TCU is not for your swap, should have bought the Turbolamik If you miss the clutch that is!??
I don't see the point if having clutch pedal in automatic. Why not just stay manual then 😅 I didn't say I miss the clutch. I meant that I don't like automatics because those have been really shit to drive over the years. Untill 8HP came out.
@@pazi88 OK, yep.. Fair enough. I've done the same swap a year ago with the 8HP90 to 2J in a E36 and the only thing I miss about the manual is the H patter nostalgia! 8HP holds more power shifts faster, and I have a combo of Auto, Sequential and paddle shifter, will never go back to manual! Plus Clutch by wire is super fun for doing powerskids, yes I'm Aussie lol
@@BUZDRIFT I still have my E30 turbo with manual and it will stay like that 😄 Manual is way more fun, especially on overly powerful car like that. But this will be more like Time Attack car, so fast shifting auto should work great, and no need for clutch in that.
Hi Pazi, Thanks for alle the detailed videos. It really helped me setting up my M52 Gurbo E30. I have installed an original E30 Clutch switch. Problem is it's grounded when depressed and open when pressed. Is there any way to change those settingsin tuner studio? I would love to keep using this switch because it's bolt on and very clean. Thank you so much in advance and greetings from Germany!
would the mosfet STP80NF03L be able to replace STP75NS04Z on the m50pnp? if not is there a good alternative? thanks
No. STP62NS04Z can be used as replacement. At least for now.
MS43 throttle blip is currently under testing, and will be released this year :)
True. I asked about that from the developer and it should be released soon. It looks like I will be doing the 8hp on the X5 too, so I'll probaply use it in that.

Yeah. It just be just about enough for that. Higher power level and you probaply want to go with 8hp70

2:15 Jesus christ that thing is done shifting before my feet have transferred energy to my shoes soles to go and press the clutch pedal. I've seen people starting to swap these 8HP45 units into Mazda Miatas, pretty much THE car in the world where everyone gets mad if it's an automatic. I'm thinking of using one in my E36, so I'll be following along. (Would also like an E34 540i Touring with M60B44 conversion and an appropriate 8HP conversion in the future too.)

Wby cantcu, ot turbolamik?
Depends on your use. If it's more street the cantcu is a great set up. If you want to retain your clutch pedal and have clutch kicks and use trans brake for launches the Lamik is the only option for that. Both are excellent products though and work very well out the box.

How come? It was set straight by dial gauge, to be within 0.01mm
Nice to see another one out there, just finished this swap for someone running in an M3, we opted for turbo lamik though as car was factory manual and owner wanted to retain clutch features that can't be offered with any other tcu set up. 👍

Yeah, I was about to say that there's English subtitles too. I will still prolly do some sort of list of used parts, when this is complete and verified that everything works.
@@pazi88 that would be great, also till now i only saw the transmission being bolted on the engine with the steel adapter plates that are cnc machined and are at least 1 cm thick. Do you think this plays a role because your transmission is now closer to the crankshaft because you bolted on the transmission directly to the engine
@@Shari_Tejp Well almost every other 8HP swap needs some sort of adapter between the engine and trans, because the bell housings don't match. And also custom flex plate etc. But as I said this N55 8HP45 swap to M5x is one of the easiest/cheapest, because it doesn't require those kind of big and expensive adapters.

You really have a 320/323 single exhaust on a build that is supposed to make 300hp ? What size is the pipe ?
As I said briefly in the video, that it will be replaced with 3" exhaust.
@@pazi88 Missed that but I did figure it was temporary, however always wondered if this was genuinely a restriction. Well for 300hp it probably is but you see people swapping stock b25 or b28 in a 320i and worry about the single pipe and always wondered if it was valid concern.
@@imnota I made ~230hp with my m52b28 using the s52 cams and that exhaust. So it's prolly some sort of restriction, but not a very big one.

Exactly what I was looking for. My wife only wants to drive Automatic, and her first car is a 98 328iA E36 Coupe. The 5hp is so damn slow, and it's annoying, especially going uphill. And since it's losing oil it's full of clutch material, I didn't want to replace it with the same one and was looking for a 8hp but didn't know where to start. Thank you !

Noh. Talvella kylmä siinä ja kesällä kuuma ja hyttysiä 😅 Mut tuolla sisällä ei riitä korkeus katossa, niin nosturi on sit hallin puolella mitä ei oo eristetty mitenkään.
